Mission to Moldova
On 5th and 6th of March 2008 a workshop was held in Chisinau, Moldova, for the participants in the IFAD-WUR programme “Supply Chain Management Support”. The objective of the workshop was to strengthen the value chains on vegetables and one on dairy products. The workshop also provided follow-up on the supply chain plans that were developed by the market partners during the Supply Chain Course and study tour in the Netherlands, which took place from 3 until 11 September 2007. In this Supply Chain Course in The Netherlands market parties from cereals, dairy products (milk and cheese), vegetables and apples, as well as IFAD staff participated.
The overall goal of the IFAD-WUR project is to develop the capacity of the Consolidated Programme Implementation Unit (CPIU-IFAD) to facilitate smallholder farmers’ market participation and market access in a participatory supply chain management framework. The project is furthermore to enhance the impact of the IFAD-financed Rural Business Development Programme (RBDP) in Moldova at field level.
The role of Lambertus Vogelzang during the Supply Chain Course in the Netherlands and the workshop in March 2008 in Moldova was mainly on advising and guiding the further strengthening of the Moldovan dairy chain.
The attached pictures give you again a bit of a taste of what happened during the mission to Moldova.
Mission to Ghana
CAH requested the support of Lambertus Vogelzang to implement a mission to Ghana in April 2008. The main aim of the NUFFIC project is: ‘Design and implement a student-centred teaching methodology and curriculum for the agricultural engineering programme according to the principals of competency-based learning’. The new programme is to be in line with labour market demands, will in-cooperate the social-economical context of Ghana and promote more creativity and innovation in problem solving. The main parts of the curriculum are already developed. The implementation of the curriculum of the first and second year has started. The development of the third year is in the final stage and will be implemented next academic year.
During the above mentioned mission the focus was mainly on supporting optimal use of the developed curriculum. The mission training programme on Coaching Personal Development aims to support a group of teachers, from the four involved Polytechnics, in getting further competent in guiding students in their own personal development. Important tools to stimulate Personal Development of students are Personal Development Plans and Action Plans, including various personal and team analyses.
The attached pictures gives you some information and impression of this educational mission to the Polytechnic in Ho, Ghana.
Mission to Vietnam
The German Ministry for Development Cooperation (BMZ) and the German Coffee Association joined forces in 2002 to re-strengthen the coffee sector. During the last years a public-private partnership was established between national and international representatives of producers, traders, coffee industry and the civil society. An important and tangible result of this cooperation was the creation of a voluntary Code Conduct for the Coffee Community (4C) to guide coffee producers and buyers. Nowadays, the 4C Association operates as independent membership organization and is based on the following components in the 4C system:
- A comprehensive code of conduct for the coffee sector as guidance for continuous improvement to contribute to a sustainable coffee sector, environmentally, economically and socially.
- A Business code (rules of participation) for trade and industry members to balance responsibilities and commitment between the various players in the coffee sector
- Support services with access to information, tools and an expert network to facilitate improvement processes at producer level
- Governance mechanisms to contribute to transparent and participatory decision making
GTZ-4C asked the support of Lambertus Vogelzang especially related to the point of developing relevant training materials for the coffee sector to support this 4C process. It included developing a manual and a training programme to offer training participants insights into the background, intentions and organisations of 4C. Quite some attention was given to further sharpen the draft criteria to measure the level of environmental, economical and sustainable compliance.
Testing out of the developed 4C ToT Training programme took place during a mission to Vietnam to work during an intensive training programme with representatives of the Vietnamese coffee sector in Ban Me Thuot in the Southern part of Vietnam.
Nowadays Lambertus Vogelzang is related to the 4C process as a master trainer to conduct 4C ToT training activities on request of the coffee sector all over the world.
The attached pictures gives you further information and atmosphere of the 4C ToT Training in Vietnam in June 2007.
